In all my close friendships, words are the bricks I use to build bridges. ~ Glennon D. Melton
Author Visits I love sharing the wonders of our amazing world with children and adults. I have two presentations prepared:
Bridging the Straits and Building the Dream covers the construction and importance of the Mackinac Bridge, using historic photos taken by Herman Ellis. Beginning with Prentiss Brown, the man who said, "Yes, we can!" and culminating in the opening day festivities in 1957/58, audiences will learn about the people and the feats of engineering that made Michigan's "Miracle Bridge" a reality. Adult audiences also love learning about the Mackinac Bridge. A highlight from each presentation I've done is hearing personal stories about the Bridge from members of the audience. Integrates Michigan Science and Social Studies concepts related to engineering design; environment and society; public discourse and decision making Wonders of a Whale Fall takes participants to the depths of the ocean where we will explore the unique and oft times bizarre creatures that live on a whale fall. We'll talk about the special adaptations that allow deep sea creatures to survive in the most hostile environment on the planet, and perhaps create our own "sea monster". Integrates Michigan Science concepts related to ecosysytems; organisms; energy and structures; and life cycles
School visits are tailored to the students' grade level and interests. If requested, part of the presentation will include information about the writer's journey - how an idea becomes a book. Presentations are 30-45 minutes with time for questions. Fees range from $250 - $500 depending on the number of presentations and travel requirements.
